In May 2004 regulations came into force requiring owners, occupiers and managers of non-domestic premises to find out if their premises contain any asbestos, if so how much and in what condition. Having done so they need to keep records of the location and condition of the asbestos.
Having found the presence of asbestos the risk it presents needs assessing, managing and monitoring. See www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg223.pdf for more details
For failing to comply with these regulations a company has been fined £100,000.
